i haven't done a "these are my top poems" in a long while but i haven't been reading a lot of contemporary poetry? so in no particular order, some poems ive been thinking about:

i put the coffin out to sea (lisa marie basile): this one is always sort of perpetually on my list. the way the language on the page gives itself to the image of the ocean is masterfully done... the words eb and flow beautifully. such a haunting and poignant description of grief

half-beautiful optic nerve (amy jannotti): "perhaps i will write dread so many times, it will lose / all meaning. perhaps i will float" ... this is a poem informing my wantingness right now that is beautifully written

but gravity still exists (jacquelyn bengfort): this one is a masterclass in a brief and beautiful hope. the final line sticks in my mouth like peanut butter and pervades on even my lowest days

Tumblarians, can we help?

I'm trying to remember a book I read but maybe I gaslit myself into believing it exists

"the last few years": a phrase which here almost certainly means "in the early to mid 2010s because what is time" so if it was published in the last 3-5 years, it's probably the wrong book

(I know I read it prior to 2020. I think I may have read it prior to 2016, but I'm less sure of that)

additional info:

I'm positive it was an adult book, not YA

I'm positive it was contemporary fantasy bc the witch kept her gingersnaps in a Tupperware container

I don't think it was a mystery, but I'm less sure of that

I remember literally nothing of the plot, which is probably why I'm having such a hard time finding the book. literally all I remember is that the MC was a disabled witch who managed her symptoms with magic-infused gingersnaps

does anyone know what this book is. did I imagine reading it. does it even actually exist

Finally pinning down a design for Miles Edgeworth, my terrible loser man who I adore. I did some color tests too.

Also sharing my personal mental notes that help me stay consistent with him in case people find them amusing xoxo

The hair vents must be aerodynamic. Jutting out over the forehead rather than up is key. Also give him a hairline pretty please

Some part of his face should be wrinkled in disgust. It is a big deal when his face softens so do so SPARINGLY!

He is pointy but not in a willowy way. He's very solid/squared. Less triangle more pentagon

It is better for expressions to tuck his bangs back, otherwise they cover up his side view. Let bangs get messier as he loses his cool for dramatic affect tho

Swoop his bangs to mimic his cravat ruffles. We are playing 4d chess with shape language here

While drawing Miles ask yourself: does his face look punchable? If the answer is no, you are doing something wrong

Words to guide his expressions: judgemental, disgusted, pained, frustrated, and uncomfortable.

Warm him up... stay away from purples unless he's being evil and dramatic. The orange/red end of the spectrum is really fun and lets you get away with a browner grey for the hair

He can be a little sassy. As a treat.
